Ripley Riley wrote:It is not the idea of high jumps in gameplay that bothers me. Tribes and other FPS' have had jumpy combat before and they did fine. Crazy low gravity chaos can be exhilarating and fun! Want to know how I know? Because games like Tribes, CoD: Advanced Warfare, and Borderlands have those mechanics (and typically better mechanics, I might add). Is that the new vision for Dust 514? Mimic others game's gimmicks? I like it when Dust 514 tries to take itself seriously. Let Borderlands and Team Fortress be the tongue-in-cheek #LOLNOFALLDAMAGE #ROCKETJUMPFTW games, please. Keep Dust gritty, heavy, grounded, and stern. Sadly, I get the feeling that is no longer the case. As much as CCP Rattati has improved balance his fundamental vision for Dust is a great deal different than mine. It is a vision without New Eden's influences, setting, and tone. Unfortunately, the New Eden setting and tone are what I find appealing in Dust 514. Slowly, I feel this game becoming less and less set in New Eden. The warbarge being handed to us without any effort or cost involved was the first hint. As nice as it is to be able to clean out my assets, the NPC market was the second indicator. Now with the lazily done myofib jumping. Somehow I think this new vision for Dust 514 is tied to making it easier to market and those generate aurum sales... but that's a topic for another thread. It is because of this that I think I will take a break from Dust 514. I will not be biomassing, just setting Dust aside and opting not to fund it for the time being. I will probably continue to lurk the forums hoping to see CCP Rattati post about the mylolfly stims being toned down. In the mean time, feel free to add me on Steam if you want to keep in touch: http://steamcommunity.com/id/RipleyRiley/Milk salesman, shitposter, scout shooter, Ripley Riley
An active piece of equipment would have made more sense within the context of the universe. I imagine a piece of man-portable propulsion equipment similar to what is used on ships in Eve. Some players with more background in New Eden lore can help me on this, but aren't Gallente ships powered with plasma thrusters? The Gallente only have one piece of equipment right now so give them this one. Activate the module and for X seconds (determined by tier) you gain crazy high jumps and falling damage is severly reduced. Holding down the X button in flight could allow you to briefly hover. "But Ripley they have such a small team in Shanghai! The myofib module is easy to implement and this active module is haaaaaard! " Reminds me of a quote... Quote:All good is hard, all evil is easy. Dying, losing, cheating, and mediocrity is easy. Stay away from easy. If CCP Shanghai can't implement something correctly, like verticality, then they should not roll it out.
Ripley Riley: gets a feature he specifically requested and then quits dust bc of it. Wow. I just want to let everyone else here see how ridiculous that sounds. Moving on to address your concerns:
lolnofalldamage? Like when you hit Tue ground after a massive jump and your shields drop to nothing? I like that we can jump far enough now to get a full charge on the knife, and I laughed my ass off when I tried to do so and overshot my jump. For the first time in a long time the kill board read "Greiv Rabbah fell and died" I totally deserved it and it was hilarious. The assault I was trying to eviscerate was just like "wtf?!" And ran off.
Rocketjumpftw? If this is the direction were going, why did CCP even bother removing flaylock jumping? Or did you start playing more than halfway into uprising and never saw that? Flaylock jumps were awesome, so long as you didn't care that it wounded you, and if you weren't careful of the fall distance impact would finish you off. Actually, I still ccan't figure out why, when it was as fun as it was and also as dangerous as it was, did that ever get removed?
Frankly speaking, both flaylock jumping and myofibs leaps not only make sense but are perfect examples of minmatar ingenuity. Both of these things were developed by the minmatar, and thebest minmatar ttinkerers are sebiestor, who are notoriously eccentric. Also, minmatar are masters of making something out of nothing and creating ingenious solutions to peculiar problems. Typically solutions that nobody else is too eager to toy with.
Myofibril stimulants increase the force put out by our limbs. That means not only stronger punches, but also stronger jumps. Flaylock fire explosive charges, and explosions release massive amounts of kinetic energy.
You want to talk about new eden needing to be super serious and gritty and make sense? How is myofibs causing strength in both arms and legs to be increased not serious? Most people won't even use them in a week because they'll be tired of getting shot out of the air. And really, that makes sense as once you leave the ground you can't just maneuver about as though you were running, you're committed to the jump. The only way that makes sense TO be able to change direction after jumping would be with flaylock or mass driver, which would be even funnier bc if ppl started flying off backwards whenever they shot a mass driver while floating, people would put their mass driver/myofibs fits away quicker.
The player bases actions in new eden have always determined the tone and the fact that you don't agree with the tone of gameplay the past couple days doesn't mean new eden is falling apart, it means your vision in your head of new eden isn't actually new eden. Its just your fantasy. I'm not saying don't dream big for dust 514. Anybody who reads my posts will know I am in no position to say that. But keep in mind that your fantasy is not the reality of new eden.
Also Karin midular, a slave-child of sebiestor descent, invented plasma thrusters while working as a researcher at Core Complexion

Funkmaster Whale wrote:Logged in to play a few games. Haven't been on since 1.10. The jumping stuff is really gimmicky. Honestly they should have just increased jump height across the board by like 10-20% instead of making a module out of it.
Infantry only Ambush was pretty cool. Sad that it took almost 2 years to finally implement because all my Spambush buddies don't play anymore.
My biggest gripe, and it seems like it's only gotten worse from the last time I played, is the framerate is still absolutely awful. I thinfew rk it's pretty safe to assume that it will never get better at this point. Sad really, I really would like to start streaming again, but I just can't play more than 1-2 games without getting frustrated at how poorly the game runs.
I think removing pilots from ambush was wrong. But that change was A YEAR ago, and the devs won't be reversing the decision. You seem to have missed that echo only removed ALL PLAYER OWNED OMS from the OMS gamemode. A game mode that should be focused around OMS. But hooray. Ignorance won in the end. Dust 514 no longer has 4 game modes.
OMS should NEVER have been moved to the ambush queue. But since it did, and instead of making the logical request of giving OMS queue back to us as a vehicle focused mode, ccp has destroyed oms. And somehow ccp cant figure out wht vehicles dont have a clearly defined role. Hints: pve would give pilots something to fight that isn't infantry, player owned turrets would as well, a game mode for pilots and av would as well. Bringing back the old vehicles would as well, although balanced.
Overall, turning OMS into ambush was a big mistake and I hope cCCP will realize that

I double-dare you to read Hotfixes Alpha through Echo again if you don't agree. I don't think it should be shackled by eve online spaceship rules, Nor do I think we should be ignoring that there is a vast source of reference material provided by eve on which a great deal of new content can be easily developed. When a dungeon master creates a new adventure for their group, they are of course free to take liberties with the campaign setting, but generally its a good idea to try and make changes you make to how the game works either stemming from concepts outlined in theboriginal campaign setting, or else at least have the changes make sense within the campaign setting.
Myofibs jumps makes sense within the setting: blue juice gives strength boostGåÆstrength boost allows stronger punches. From this, its an easily logical conclusion that: blue juice gives strength boostGåÆstrength boost allows higher jumps. Thruster packs are also an interesting concept. There should be some inherent danger in them i think, or at least some reason that myofibs would be better for one situation and thruster packs be better for another situation.
Either way, under the generally accepted thought process that myofibs make you physically stronger, the jumps are the right way to go. Dont let ripley get you down on account of his "boo hoo i got my way so ill quit" attitude

Based on what I found during testing (there's a thread), x3 Complex Myrofibrils allows you to jump about 20 feet on the dot if we assume that all mercs are about 5 feet tall. We should assume all heavies are about 7 feet tall, since were super soldiers. Scouts maybe 5ft bc sneaky sneaky doesn't go wellwith hulking giant

I double-dare you to read Hotfixes Alpha through Echo again if you don't agree. I agree we don't want to completely follow EVE Spaceship Rules, Kincats and each suits' regen does this well. Also i'm personally happy with how you did Myos. However, should an equipment come out later on to make "jump packs" a thing, Myos' jump height would need to be dialed back a bit. Also any plans on making Myos a bit less "Proto or bust"? Maybe we could do 15-20-25% and improve each suits' base melee to be at least somewhat reliable on its' own? E.G. Minmatar Assault currently does 120(?), maybe make it 180 to 220, and bring the Minmatar Commando's from 240 up to 340, such that we can still have our 600 melee fits, but make it less utterly reliant on Prototype modules. Mind if I scream out against this? As it currently is, the DEFINED IN GAME melee focused role gets no bonus to melee anymore and already doesn't have the highest melee damage if you stack myofibs. The only real melee advantage the minja has is a high base melee compared to other suits of its weight class. By which I mean 120 compared to a commandos 240. Now I already see a problem there but let me read you sonething from the class description in game:
Biotic augments make this suit ideal for a melee-focused role. Woven into the suit, a tremor membrane saturates muscles with nutrients amplifying the cross-sectional force of physical strikes. Combined with rigorous training, this temporarily enhanced strength and dexterity make the Minmatar Scout almost unmatched in hand-to-hand combat.
Grammar aside, this description does not ring true in either the roles bonuses, its stats, its fitting capacity, or its slot layout. Increasing the melee of other roles, which already dwarf that of the minja, would only widen this chasm between the roles defined purpose and its common usage

Re; Jump Fatigue Re: Interdictor cancelers Re: Doomsday weapon nerf Soon Sovereignty shakeup. All massively change the dynamics of the game. The things you listed are all some kind of nerf or balancing effort. Bunny hopping blue gatorade is neither of those things; it is silliness for silly sake. If Eve had implemented a new weapon system that fired rockets filled with space ferrets that attack the enemy vessel on impact we would be comparing apples to apples. Greiv Rabbah wrote:Ripley Riley: gets a feature he specifically requested and then quits dust bc of it. Wow. I just want to let everyone else here see how ridiculous that sounds. First off, please read my trello card: https://trello.com/c/ndrbokFX "Equipment that actively increases your jump height and/or distance. The base unit increases jump height and distance. A variant could exist that increases height much more than distance.
The heavier the dropsuit the less of a benefit you receive from this module. Like most pieces of equipment, it would have a cooldown. Another variant could offer reduced jump heights/distances but a faster cooldown."
I wanted a piece of equipment, not a passive module. Second, I am not quitting Dust. I am taking a break for a while. If Rattati tones down the myofibs I will probably return sooner rather than later. I will absolutely sign in for the Warlords 1.1 launch. Chances of me purchasing aurum are nil until I see Dust's direction change back to a heading somewhere in the same ******* hemisphere as New Eden.
Ok... Um, so comparing balancing efforts in eve to an effort to make a relatively obscure module more viable while simultaneously adding a feature a player requested and making tye module work as it logically would considering physics is apples to apples. Comparing it to your silly ferret launcher idea, while awesome and i would buy one(hell i bought a prototype snowball launcher so why not?) Is 100% apples to oranges.
Yes i read your trello card. And you got your feature picked to be put in the game. And then you cried. There is a rule regarding making your requests overly specific and that is vecause we dont know what is and isnt feasible with their current code base and development pipeline. Stop being an ingrate and enjoy the feature YOU got added.
For the last time, new eden is not the same as your fantasy of new eden. Were all here to play a game so its not like im gonna tell you to grow up. But for f*cks sake learn to be more mature. You dont own this sandbox any more than any of the rest of us do so learn to be thankful when the rules are changed based on your request. Nobody should have to lecture you about this any longer. I see no reason for this thread to continue.

Iron Wolf Saber wrote:Now now now; who said we cannot learn from the current shenanigans so that when we do bring in the jump pack we have an idea how it should work?
After all we don't have a test server.
Which is why I am not advocating for a nerf until the packs are in. The meta change of the game play positives are just too great to ignore the gripe about being vertically challenged and points of access only available to dropships have immensely dropped severely. No place save the towers are safe from ambush anymore; many a roof campers are sadden they have to watch their backs now. This aspect must be preserved regardless; this is a change for the positive.
The whole jumping impractically while in combat can go jump packs on cooldowns will see to that.
Lets learn obverse and design better form our mistakes. Also I would like to see a general buff to all suits default jump height. 2 inch ledges are killing me smalls. Hey I get the feeling you have to have noticed this but less armor = higher jump. As in, a minmatar commando with no modules can jump a foot or two/an amarr sentinel stacking plates on plates on heavier plates struggles to jump an inch or two. This is not a bad situation and if heavies need to choose between myofibs and not being able to vault while armored to the teeth, great

on a more relevant topic aeon, this may have been asked elsewhere, but did you ever manage to get your tattoo finished? I always was excited about seeing it filled in.
now something for everyone. speaking of silliness for silliness' sake: FEDO. If you don't know what a fedo is, you havent lived in new eden. that thing is conceptually silly as hell but its been a part of new eden since before eve online was a game. so nobody gets to have their panties in a twist about silliness. silliness has always been in dust, always been in eve, and before the two were games, silliness was a thing in new eden anyway. dont like that a module makes sense physically? get over it. feel like rattati is doing away with the "old vision of dust" go watch the dust keynote from two years ago. emphasis was put on verisimilitude. is this exactly the way they meant? doubtful or we'd have seen it before. but it is verisimilitude nonetheless, which is not only within the bounds of the advertised "fundamental vision" of dust, its actually PREFECTLY IN LINE with it.

oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=517540&page=1#30 Ah, perfect. This is what I am talking about right here. Unfortunately, I do believe this CCP employee is no longer with us. Wish he could stop by CCP Shanghai and let CCP Rattati know what's up.
hey rip, heres what the carebear he was telling off started out with
"I have been in mmorpg games for a long time and I have played pvp games and non pvp games. I have a resume far too long and spend far too much time playing games. Here is my analysis of this game:
There is an emerging elite class of players rising out of Eve Online leaving the average joes in the dust. Some players are benefiting from the many and at their expense. The competitive Eve player LOVES this as it rewards the strong and crushes the weak. The problem is its the average joes that are paying the electric bills on the Ramsan too.
Normally MMORPG developers thwart the eating of their young by granting them consensual / non consensual pvp systems and areas. Eve empire space (as it was conveyed to me) was supposed to be that area. I thought that until I was "stupid enough" to transport my hangar through hi sec space and lost 2 years of my game life about 4 months ago so someone else could make use of a crappy game feature and get 15 minutes of fun.
It won't take long for this thread to get flamed into oblivion because IGÇÖve seen it before but last I checked all subscribing players get to have a say on these forums whether they pvp or not and I got about 36 hours left. -Being a person who likes PvP or a person who likes to gank defenseless players may make you think your epeen is bigger, but the reality of it is this game could still be fun if there were limited opportunities for others to enjoy the game without being someoneGÇÖs cannon fodder. There is no real world definition out there that says you're a better person or player because you choose to pvp....get that out of your head. Also please understand IGÇÖm not asking for WoW here. There has to be a medium. Fact:
As older characters get older and make more money and get better ships the market demands and the game content demands inflate with it. The new content expansions have done what content expansions do to all games: they trivialize the content that comes before it. This is bad for new characters in Eve because its boring to do mundane things to get to the good stuff. YouGÇÖre not building expansion content with the newer players in mind GÇô you always stack new stuff on top which benefits mainly people who have been through the older stuff. The effect is starting to take hold and the disparity is evident.
Fact:
If you choose to NOT pvp you only give up your ability to fight back in this game. Its perfectly reasonable and acceptable for the community and the developers to see freighters and industrial ships with no defense / weaponry blow up in high sec space due to broken game mechanics. Bring a friend eh?
How does it help immersion and RP and all that to sit at a gate and 1 shot defenseless ships? Why would it be so terrible to have areas where competitive or even preying pvp is possible and other areas where its not? WTF is empire for? Remove Concord then and be done with it or stop this stupid 1 shot killing. Even UO had guards FFs.
The Darwinism aspects of this game can be great and I thought they were but if you take it too far you start cutting into my game time which is downtime after a hard days work. I want to love this game but there is so much BS I donGÇÖt know. I donGÇÖt see how its too much to ask that the risk (or time) vs reward be balanced 50/50 and not in the favor of the halfwit(s) sitting at the gate waiting for defenseless ships to roll through?
If miners and industrialists are the backbone for the supply and demand paradigm in Eve online then they should be allowed a bit more exclusivity in that department. As it stands now you can play icon wars mining ore or you can go run complexes and forego the need for industrists kick them in the balls on mineral prices.
Maybe its time to just be a bit more honest about who this game is for and stop marketing it as a game available to pvp GÇÿr and crafter alike."
just thought i'd throw it in for everyone who wont look up the original thread. in other words, it was somebody crying about how they didnt like how the game works. somebody who thought that they should change new eden to what he felt it ought to be instead of what it is. because he was dting to a game mechanic he didnt like. sound familiar bruh?

Greiv, I am not going to repeat myself again so please pay very close attention: this is not what I asked for. I asked for an active module, not passive. Rattati saw my trello card idea, decided that creating visual assets for a jump pack was hard, and instead created this always-on Super Mario module because fun. Nevermind how weird and off-putting it is to see stiff limbed clones flying through the air like store manikins being shot out of a cannon. My response was to post a single thread in GD. Your definition of "stomping your feet" and "throwing yourself to the ground and holding your breath until you get what you want" is vastly different from mine. I'm not spamming the forums with threads, preaching 'the end is nigh', or being a vulgar troll. I explained why I am taking a break from Dust 514. Nothing more, nothing less. But if you paint me as being immature then it makes it easier to dismiss my point of view so I can see why you are taking this angle And 24 Likes on my OP indicates the forum isn't 100% in love with the myofib change. Before you say anything, yes I realize that the forums comprise only a fraction of the community, but still... Some people see New Eden being bled from Dust 514 and they are not a fan. yeah you're right, you made your own thread and i came in and lectured you for it. now, i'm in the wrong for that, but your thread is stupid. its like if you were playing a game where they talk about spider mans super strength, but it only reflects in his punches, his jumps are still weak as all hell. then the devs of the game realize this and how it makes no sense in-world, so they update it so that he can jump like spider-man as well as punch like spider man. then someone cries that spider man shouldnt jump like that because his super strength only works in his hand....
well, that sounds ret*rded doesnt it? well, the in-game info describes it as boosting the users strength, and now the items usage reflects that.
^ this is the current situation here. the item more closely reflects its in-game description, effectively deepening immersion by increasing verisimilitude. in other words, it enhances a reasonable suspension of disbelief by making the item adhere to physics in-universe
your response was more than simply making a thread in GD. your response was to decide to leave because you dont like what the community is doing in a sandbox game. its all play and trash talk and all that when all is good, but the truth is that a sandbox game depends on the community. the tone of the game is inluenced by how the community decides to react to an ever-evolving world. in a game like this, its up to the bittervets to show the newbros the ropes and every bittervet that leaves because theyre fed up with the game not going exactly how they want is hurting the game overall. this is what i feel is detrimental about your reaction. you DID get the feature you requested, maybe not in the exact way you hoped, but youre still being immature over it when what the dev team did makes perfect sense and in no way breaks immersion. i will continue to insist that it improves it.
Maybe you DO need to step away from new eden for a few days, come back, and see that new eden has always been a little silly and a lot dark. come back and see that tank fighting with a gun that fires a kamehameha is silly. see that killing people with a grenade that does nothing but disrupt life support systems is grim as all hell but we laugh our *sses off at it, see that the harder murdertaxi-ing becomes, the more sport drivers find in it, and maybe see that the way myofibs work now is what finally makes sense physically based on how myofibs are described to work. you dont have much room to talk about having to repeat yourself when you illustrate that you either didnt listen to or actively ignored things i pointed out before.
NAMELY if rattati was trying to turn us into rocket jumping soldiers from tf2... why not just change mass drivers and flaylocks back to pre-1.4 mechanics? i honestly miss flaylock jumping, and when it killed me, was that not silly? was that not dark and gritty? are the two mutually exclusive? im going to say no, and continue to assert that if myofibs DONT boost jumps, then they CANT boost punches. think about this for a few minutes.
...
i'll wait.

and anyway, i'm not a vulgar troll. the nerfvalanche is REAL and the end is nigh. maybe. prolly not lol. actually statistics indicate that dust is pretty much holding steady lately, so not likely. either way, anybody whos been around here long enough has seen things get nerfed into brokenness and finally removed. or did you forget about the callisto and the abron? i wanted to see them made useful, not removed. but the nerfvalanche hit vehicles, and theyre gone now, save for in my fittings closet

These new drugs don't fit within some players' scope of New Eden tech. That causes my immersion to break and to say to myself, "This is just silly..." If I intended to play a purposefully silly game this would be fine, but I didn't. What about boosters? Like the EVE ones? You know the things the drug lab POSes make? Lore-wise I think the stim changes make perfect sense. It was my understanding that boosters effect the mental capabilities of a capsuleer. I don't think our clone's neurologic function effect our jump distance, but I could be wrong Youre right. There are boosters that affect shield regeneration, which is explained for in that response times by the capsuleer to shield management systems are increased but that the capsuleers attention span is affected so other systems suffer.
The booster lore doesn't make much sense.
With biotics, the formula is injected into your bloodstream increasing physical capabilities. In the case of blue juice, strength. When you consider that shields are sacrificed for a strength boost.
its not only fair, it also fits the lore, and it also makes more sense than the reasoning for boosters working the way they do
I know you won't agree but I just can't help trying to talk some sense into you because I know you aren't an idiot

Vell0cet wrote:I wish CCP Rattati, CCP Rouge and the rest of the DUST team played EVE a bit on the side (a few hours a week). I'd love it if Rattati was in a corp like Red vs. Blue and got to experience a lot of fast-paced, low-stakes frigate brawls. I think it could add a lot of value by bringing in the right parts of EVE to DUST. I'd really like vehicle gameplay to mirror frigate fights in EVE, with tackling, capacitors, Ewar, out maneuvering the enemy, etc.
I have mixed feelings on the blue pills. Clearly there is something broken with stacking penalties that needs to be resolved and I would like to see how they work once they are functioning as intended. The idea of adding verticality to combat is fantastic and much needed, and adding jump height to blue pills is a logical extension of that module as well as giving it a purpose. I love that we can now access more areas of the map, but the execution does feel lazy/sloppy. If I were master of the universe and had unlimited resources to make DUST how I wanted I would add the following things:
1. Vaulting/climbing so we can grab ledges and pull ourselves up, or climb over a railing. It wouldn't be parkour-like, more like a strong guy/girl pulling his very heavy suit over a ledge.
2. Jet packs. These would be equipment with high fitting costs and a suit bonused to use them (maybe the commando) like the cloak. A PRO jet pack could get you to the top of a tower. It would cause a massive increase in your signature, and you'd be lockable with swarms when it's active.
3. Grappling pin and magnetic boots. This piece of equipment would allow you to scale walls and even attach to horizontal or the underside of metallic vertical surfaces. You could hide on the ceiling like a bat and shoot people while upside down. This would be useful in 0G fights too for getting around (one day).
4. A real mass stat. Each suit would have a mass stat that would increase based on the modules fit. All of the movement stats would be derived from this: sprint speed, jump height, stamina use, even inertia for strafing, speed of ingress/egress from vehicles, etc. all of this would bring a sense of authenticity to the physics at play. If you double the force of a jump, you don't actually go twice as high (I'm pretty sure that's right). Mass would play a major factor in limiting jump height to believable levels. I don't care how many bath salts you sniff and how genetically modified your muscles are, jumping in a 300lbs suit is only going to get you but so far off the ground.
5. The ability for mercs to walk up small steps like curbs without having to jump. Something like 12 inches in height wouldn't require jumping.
So I'm not against the idea of adding verticality to gameplay, or to increasing jump heights with blue pills, but I just want things to feel somewhat plausible. Blue pills should increase the amount of vertical force when you jump, but that should be fed into an equation based on the mass of the current suit to derive a jump height that is inline with Newtonian physics. (note this can all be calculated when you fit the suit, so it shouldn't impact gameplay performance).
The current implementation just feels out-of-place, like if CCP Shanghai decided to add spell casting to DUST. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being though, and let them tweak the numbers/code until blue pills are behaving as intended. Spell casting is in dust. PLC is fireball. Swarm is magic missile. Hive is invigorate. Laser is drain life. Rep tool is heal wounds. Flux is daze.
Now go play d&d 514. I hope I have shattered your limited world view.

Jump+massdriver - dragon fire. Now it's game for 12 years children. Shame, just shame.
Nobody has been complaining about all this and its been true the whole time! The classes originally reflected Warrior, Ranger, Mage, Rogue and to varying extents still do. Planetary battles in new eden have loosely resembled real-time d&d since the beginning and nobody takes issue with it until something they dislike happens and then its oh so bad. I would argue that for a game thats been touted as a fps/mmo hybrid since the beginning, dust does a better job of keeping the game a good fps and a decent RPG at the same time than most anybody else could have managed and they do it while fitting into the campaign setting of new eden quite well
